Pharmaceutical industry

We distinguish several types of water used in the pharmaceutical industry because different applications require different purity or quality of water. Water that is an ingredient in a preparation that is taken directly into the body (injections, infusions, etc.) must meet far stricter quality requirements.

Different pharmacopoeias (drug preparations) list different types of purified water used to produce drugs. Thus, for example, according to the European Pharmacopoeia, purified water is used for

the manufacture of drugs which are not required to be sterile and pyrogen-free, unless otherwise prescribed.

On the other hand, highly purified water (purified) is a type of water used in the manufacture of all medicinal products that require water of high biological quality (sterile).

In addition to being a direct ingredient in pharmaceutical drugs and preparations, water is used as a service medium (heating, cooling, washing, etc.) and must be properly conditioned in accordance with the requirements of the process.

As a result of industrial processes, industrial wastewater is created that contains substances that need to be removed before being discharged into a public collector or natural recipient.
